Exercise: your best bet for health

Exercising in the army in the 1950's

You know that exercise is important. It lowers blood pressure and cholesterol and reduces risk for al major diseases: heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It helps in conquering depression and anxiety, it keeps your bones healthy and of course it keeps your weight down.

A recent study found yet another reason why exercise is important. The researchers divided 33 obese women with type 2 diabetes in three groups:

  • A restricted calorie diet high in monounsaturated fat
  • Exercise
  • Diet and exercise

After fourteen weeks only the women in the exercise groups had lost visceral fat (deep belly fat): the most dangerous fat. Diet alone did burn abdominal fat, but in order to lose visceral fat, exercise was necessary.

The conclusion is clear: go exercise! Find something you like, so that you stick with it.
